March 2012

Jennifer Dewar, Alumni Sponsor

Hello Class of 2015!

I hope you all have enjoyed the school year and are continuing to claim your education.  While some of you may be off to see friends and family this Spring Break, those of you who are around campus that week have several different things you could take advantage of in San Antonio.  Here are just a few:

Events
San Antonio Spurs Homes Games (evenings of 3/12 and 3/14 at the AT&T Center).
San Antonio Rampage Hockey Games (evenings of 3/16 and 3/17 at the AT&T Center).
Sinbad’s Comedy Tour (evening of 3/16 at the Majestic Theater Downtown). This show has a 5 star rating on Ticketmaster.

Popular Hot Spots That Are Open
Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Sea World (Has extended hours the week of Spring Break).
San Antonio Zoo (We have a great zoo and it is very close to the campus).        Japanese Tea Gardens (No admission required.  This is just a great spot to go and enjoy).
Witte Museum (Currently showing Darwin: How One Man’s Theory Turned the World on its Head.  Also very close to campus on Broadway.)
Enchanted Rock National Park in Fredericksburg TX

Outside the City
Gruene  (Home of Gruene Hall, one of the oldest dance halls in Texas.  They have live music every day of the week.)
New Braunfels (Great town.  Landa Park is also a wonderful park located in the city by the river).
Austin (Austin can be a great day trip with a lot of local wonderful hotspots).

There are just a few suggestions.  However, I encourage you to go out and explore with the free time you have.  Go volunteer (there are several organizations that would enjoy your time and talent.  You can find them with a quick Google search).  Go try something new.  Go learn about something completely outside your classes.  Use this time to continue the path of claiming your education.  You’ll be glad you did.

Kyle Gillette, Class Marshal

Dear Class of 2015,

As you approach Spring Break, you have an opportunity to take a much-needed (and well-deserved) rest. Whether you plan to visit friends or family, participate in an alternative Spring Break experience, travel, or just catch up on sleep, this week gives you a crucial chance to take a breath and relax.

Spring Break also allows you to reflect on your year so far. What have you learned? How do you see the world -- and your place in it -- differently than you did before? Which classes and co-curricular activities have pushed you beyond what you thought you could do? What do you want to explore further next year?

By taking a step back and seeing your education from a broader perspective, you can start to appreciate the role Trinity plays in your development as a whole person. You can clear your head, recognize your passions and interests, and take the next step: finish out the year with focus and clarity while picking classes for next year that will help you develop further.

Take a deep breath, take stock, and have a great Spring Break!

Over the semester break, the campus was eerily quiet without your collective supply of energy. I even started standing by the upper campus construction zone in the afternoons because the silence became unbearable. Eventually, the crew put me to work…so if you’ve noticed a classroom in the Center for Science & Innovation that leans slightly to the left, that’s my handiwork. You’re welcome.  more>>
