You are more than halfway done with your semester. That means, as you remember from the last eight times this happened, that you are exhausted, overworked, under-slept, sick, anxious, no longer enchanted with your strange new classes, seriously pondering the next break, and occasionally feeling like you’re in over your head. You may have lost sight of some of the wonder and terror that the new semester brought a couple months ago. You may have fallen into some routines. You may even have found it difficult to imagine finishing what you started. But the end shines somewhere in the distance. The projects that seem impossible to finish will happen somehow before the year is done. The material you are studying will soon be in your past. So, today I'm being vulnerable. I freely admit I'm not good at this. Both talking about it and living it.
Recently I have been in a position to ask for lots of help. I'm honestly not good at this either. I feel by asking for help it shows weakness. Merriam-Webster defines weak a couple of ways, "'lacking strength" "mentally or intellectually deficient" or my favorite "not able to function properly". So, who really wants to live this definition, right? It's not exactly aspirational. more>>

Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon
The San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is cutting through Trinity’s campus this year. Come out on November 17 from 8 – 10 a.m. to cheer on the runners and show your Trinity pride. Breakfast and t-shirts will be provided to everyone who comes out. Be on the lookout for poster making and other events in the weeks leading up to the race.
Fall Leadership Symposium – Grassroots Leadership
November 16
Online registration is live for the Fall Leadership Symposium on November 16, 2013, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m., Fiesta Room. This year’s theme is Grassroots Leadership for Social Change. Topics including: getting a new organization off the ground, uniting volunteers around a common purpose, marketing, raising funds, and contacting local government. Symposium participants will work in small groups to compete for the best ‘grassroots organizing’ proposal. The $5 registration fee includes a shirt, certificate, and lunch. Save the date: The Annual Great American Smokeout is the third Thursday of November. What is the best way to QUIT? The key to becoming a non-smoker is to match your smoking habits with a stop smoking method that works for you. You can get help designing your own personal quit plan by taking the American Cancer Society’s Stop Smoking Quiz. Telephone quit lines and support groups are other ways to increase your chances for success. Call 1-800-ACS-2345 to find one in your area. If you need medical assistance to quit call Health Services, 210-999-8111, to make an appointment to consult with Dr. Janna Wilder, the University physician or see your personal doctor to discuss your options.

If it seems that you need to improve time management, be a more savvy test-taker, etc., Counseling Services can help. Goldman Sachs Diversity Partners Symposium Salt Lake City, 11/02/2013 (Sunday), 11:59 p.m., Salt Lake City Office
The Goldman Sachs Diversity Partners Symposium in Salt Lake City is a one-day program for students who identify as Black, Latino, or Native American and are interested in learning more about the financial services industry and summer internship opportunities. Students who travel from outside the Salt Lake City area will be reimbursed for travel expenses. The symposium will start at 8 a.m. November 19, and end at 5 p.m. November 20. If you are studying abroad this fall but will be back for the spring, please contact Briana McGlamory to set something up.
