I enjoyed interacting with many of you during the recent Making Connections event on September 18th. Sometimes approaching professionals can be uncomfortable or awkward as a student. You may find yourself asking questions like “What do I have in common with them?” or “How can I engage or start the conversation?” The students who attended the event did a fabulous job networking with the alumni.
Don’t approach the job search as just looking for a way to pay the bills after graduation. It’s important to conduct lots of “informational interviews”. Use Career Services or professors to help make some introductions with alumni and other professional and be sure to ask them questions such as: more >>

Class Marshal
Hello Seniors! Your first full month
of classes is wrapping up, and over here at ResLife we are gearing up some
Senior Year Experience programming! Our first big program of the semester will
be on Tuesday, October 28th where you are invited to play The Game of Life on the
Esplanade. However, this is not your typical board game. We have transformed
Life into a life-sized experience aimed towards allowing you to make decisions
that you’ll face in the real world. You will start a job, receive a salary, and
then progress through the game make decisions such as if you’re willing to give
up part of your paycheck for a monthly Netflix subscription. By the end of the
game, you will end up with your monthly take-home amount, and you will be able
to see where all of your money goes.
We are hoping this interactive game will
get you ready for those tough real-world decisions, and help ease the
transition from being a college student to a work professional. I hope to see a
lot of you there and remember you can always reach me by email at ljohnso5@trinity.edu!

Career Services events follow a
pattern
Have you
ever noticed a pattern to the events hosted by Career Services? Kudos to you,
if you have.
Events are
lined up to demonstrate the typical process a student takes to find a full-time
career position.
For
instance, Resumania, a power critique of your resume,
leads the pack this semester on October 1. It is followed by Interview Success on October 2, during which you’ll
learn the ins and outs of interviewing from professional recruiters. Then comes
Professional Practice Interview Days from October 8-10, which is your
chance to practice in a mock interview and get instant feedback.
All these
events culminate in the Fall Career Fair on October 22, where your learning
from each of the previous workshops comes into play. You’ll be ready with a
polished resume in hand and you’ll know what to say to recruiters to learn
about their company’s job opportunities, while coming across as a qualified job
applicant.

common as people who care about fair treatment for everyone. Sponsored by the
