Alumni Sponsor - March 2014

Class of 2015,

I know by now you are looking forward to Spring Break and having a hiatus from coursework and other commitments.  However, I really felt it was important this month to focus on the importance of summer internships.

An internship is a great experience for a number of reasons.  Here are just a few:

1.  For those that might be on the fence about their committed major, it is a way to "test drive" a career which is supported by your chosen academic discipline.
2. This type of experience may be the deciding factor between you and another applicant (whether it be a graduate school or a potential employer).
3.  In some cases internships lead to full time job offers upon graduation.
4.  You build your list of professional references and contacts for the future.

Make sure in your search you use the tools available at your disposal, mainly the Career Services team.  Many opportunities are posted in TigerJobs but you can also search on sites like
internships.com free of charge through the Career Services program.  Also, check out the Summer & Part-Time Jobs Fair which is being held April 2.

LinkedIn is also a great social media site to search for available internships.  And finally if you have interest in a particular organization but are finding it tough to get noticed let Career Services and your professors know.  They love to help and might know of an alum who happens to be at that company.  There is power behind networking.

Best of luck to you in your search and have a safe and rewarding Spring Break.
